About Us
Fisherman's Haven is the oldest family-owned and continuously operated Marina and Camp on Lake LBJ, and possibly the entire Highland Lakes Chain. We've literally seen a lot of water go under the bridge in over 50 years, enduring floods that ripped out our waterfront but we built it back each time, knowing it is worth it to be here on the "river bank".

The Camp began as the dream of Woodrow and Margie McDougald. They bought a 2.5 acre fish camp and an adjoining 5 acres in 1959 and turned the small fish camp with 4 boat slips and an old platform dock into 325 feet of prime waterfront complete with retaining wall, ten slips, a fishing dock, launch ramp, fuel facilities, 22 mobile home and RV sites, and 16 dry storage boat stalls.

Woody spent every day at the waterfront for 41 years, selling bait or gasoline, helping someone out with a stubborn boat motor, or catching fish himself. He was known far and wide as "the guy without a shirt" since he rarely wore one during the summer months. He quickly became everyone's Dad and later their Granddad.

Margie helped out with the business, too, working right alongside Woody in all things. She cooked breakfast and hamburgers for anyone who was hungry, including Lyndon Johnson and his Secret Service staff. She always planted a garden, growing fresh tomatoes and onions for the burgers. She helped launch boats, dip minnows and wait on customers whenever Woody couldn't. She could out fish anyone, and invariably caught something when no one else could. She was then, and still is now, the busiest 106 pounds of woman around.

Faye and Craig McDougald purchased the Camp in May of 2000, allowing Woody and Marge to retire. They have added an additional 5 RV/mobile home spots, 18 more dry boat storage units and 5 more wet slips.

Full time residency in the Camp is not allowed. Our customers leave their mobile homes or RV's set up for vacation use at their convenience. We do maintain some of the RV sites for short-term use for those who look for weekend excursions. All of our customers become part of the family, with a lot of them having been here since the early 1960's. We are a part of four generations in most of their lives, having watched the children of those early customers grow and become parents and then grandparents.

Stop in next time you're on Lake LBJ for fuel, bait, ice cream, or come with your RV and relax with us. Remember, any day at the Lake is better than a day at the office.
